Separate three different types of holiday

A Northern Territory calendar needs three layers: full-day territory-wide public holidays, regional show-day holidays and the two year-end part-day holidays. Combining them into one undifferentiated list can give the wrong next-holiday countdown or leave total. The countdown on this site uses full-day territory-wide dates.

The NT 2027 year calendar includes all three layers with coverage and timing notes. Start with your actual work location and roster, then identify which regional date belongs in your plan. A local show day does not become a territory-wide holiday because many people travel to the event.

May Day and Picnic Day anchor the NT calendar

May Day falls on Monday 3 May 2027 and Picnic Day on Monday 2 August. These territory-wide dates distinguish the NT calendar from other jurisdictions. For a standard Saturday–Sunday roster, they create three-day breaks from 1–3 May and 31 July–2 August respectively.

If comparing a trip with friends from another state, check their calendars too. They may not have the same Monday holiday. The NT dates can help narrow the timing of a local break, but opening hours, travel conditions and individual leave arrangements remain separate checks.

Easter and ANZAC Day in 2027

Good Friday is 26 March, Easter Saturday 27 March, Easter Sunday 28 March and Easter Monday 29 March. For a standard weekend roster, that gives a four-day break. Workers rostered across Easter should use the individual dates and their own work arrangements rather than assuming the whole period is automatically free.

ANZAC Day falls on Sunday 25 April, while the NT 2027 dataset lists the observed public holiday on Monday 26 April. For calendar planning, distinguish the commemorative date from the observed day. Do not assume a Saturday ANZAC Day in another year will follow the same pattern.

Match the five show days to the official regions

The 2027 show-day entries are Alice Springs on 2 July, Tennant Creek on 9 July, Katherine on 16 July, Darwin on 23 July and Borroloola on 13 August. Each is a regional holiday. The NT Government’s show-day regions map is the reference for deciding which area an entry covers.

The show-day guide compares all five. If a workplace is near a boundary or operates across multiple areas, confirm its location against the official coverage rather than selecting the nearest event name. Public holiday dates and show opening programmes are different information.

Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve begin at 7 pm

The NT’s Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve public holidays apply from 7 pm to midnight. They do not make the whole daytime period a public holiday. In 2027 both dates fall on a Friday, so a plan involving daytime work and evening work needs to keep the timing explicit.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 December, with additional holidays on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December in the shared calendar. Read the full date sequence rather than treating the two part-day evenings as replacements for those full-day holidays.

Plan travel and leave as separate decisions

For a standard weekend roster, four approved leave weekdays after a Monday holiday can join two weekends. The NT long-weekend guide includes the actual date ranges and leave counts. Compare the travel distance and available days as well as the number of leave weekdays saved.

Public holidays do not determine school term dates, road access, weather or tour availability. Check those with the appropriate current sources once you have a possible travel period. Keep projected future holiday dates labelled until an official year-specific publication confirms them; the shared dataset marks the 2027 dates here as officially confirmed.
